Ceetrus Hungary Kft. supports the activities of the largest Hungarian men’s health protection movement with 500,000 HUF
As a responsible company, Ceetrus Hungary Kft. places special emphasis on important issues affecting our society. Therefore, this year it provides financial support to various foundations and associations, among them MentsManust-Movember Hungary Association.
In Hungary, many foundations deal with women’s health, while there are fewer for men. Meanwhile, cancer mortality statistics among men are just as tragic. That is why the work of MentsManust-Movember Hungary Association - which has a history of more than ten years - is outstanding. No wonder the association has grown into the largest men’s health movement in the country in recent years.
In November, thousands of men around the world set aside their razors and grow their mustaches in order to raise awareness of one of the most common male diseases, prostate cancer. Thanks to the Movember Hungary Movement, domestic volunteers have been able to join the Australian initiative called Movember since 2009. The promoters of the initiative have been working in an association form since 2016 in order to raise awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle and regular screening. The nationwide screening program called Prostate Commando, which has been operating since 2016 is also connected to the association. Professional partners, including the Hungarian Society of Urologists and the Department of Urology at Semmelweis University, joined the PSA screenings throughout the country.
In Hungary, an average of 5,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year, and the disease takes the lives of about 1,500 men every year. The probability that a man will survive the age of 65 in Hungary is currently only 64%, although if recognized in time, prostate cancer can be cured. Healthy eating, a responsible relationship and regular exercise all play an important role in prevention. Many do not know, but with at least half an hour of exercise every day, 65% of chronic diseases can be prevented. Proper mental hygiene is just as important, so in addition to physical health, it is worth paying attention to our mental condition as well. In addition, over the age of 40, it is recommended to go for a prostate cancer screening once a year.
Ceetrus Hungary Kft., the operator of Auchan Korzó in Hungary, supports the work of MentsManust-Movember Hungary Association with a donation of 500,000 HUF. The donation certificate was handed over by Diana Diána Szemerédi, CSR and Internal Communications Manager and Gergely Fonay, Marketing Team Leader to the President of the association, László Dániel Honti. The association is planning to use the granted amount to purchase PSA rapid tests. In addition, in the spring of 2021, two PSA screenings will be organized at a site operated by Ceetrus Hungary, one of the Auchan Korzós.
Gergely Fonay said commented the following in connection with the donation: “It is unfortunate that amoung the EU countries Hungary has the highest rate of cancer deaths in relation to the population, so prevention, timely screenings and public information play an important role. We are very pleased that we are able to support the work of the association with our financial resources and that we can also provide a venue for screenings at Auchan Korzó. This way, we can also contribute a little to the improvement of men’s health in Hungary.”
